The Program Book 4/3 – rejected and withdrawn project ideas for the European Capital of Culture Linz. An initiative from Linz0nein.
Following three program books of the European Capital of Culture, another book is presented on 27 February 2009: the Program Book 4/3 by Linz0nein; this initiative of collecting rejected and withdrawn projects for the European Capital of Culture Linz, started in 2008 by Belinda Hofer and Robert Hinterleitner, now comes to an initial climax in a publication.
The editors have not intervened in the project ideas submitted to linz0nein.org.
The editors’ intention is to question the decision-making mechanisms and the rules of the game in art and cultural production using the example of major events such as the European Capital of Culture year. What makes a project “successful”, and what happens if someone is not willing or able to play the game by the conventional rules?
In addition to 75 projects that were not able to become part of the European Capital of Culture Linz, respected authors such as Marlene Streeruwitz, Niko Wahl, Tanja Brandmayr and Hans Christian Schiff support the editors’ aims of placing the publication in a broader context with their essays.
In the course of the presentation, everyone who submitted a project will receive a free copy of the publication. The Linz0nein Program Book will be available until 31 December 2009 for 10 Euro. Remaining copies will be turned over to a new purpose.
